Aloha! I recently did an interview about opening up my home-studio to teach retreats. The questions really made me reflect on my accumulated history & connection to Hawaii and the different reasons why I wanted to create these retreats. It all boils down to sharing.
My hope is for retreat guests to experience Hawaii from a local perspective, a lifestyle based on informality, and a chance to connect to all the elements so uniquely Hawaiian- feel the trade winds, smell the ocean, smell the flowers, listen to birds sing, walk around barefoot, feel gratitude. Maui is calling August 4th-8th, a long weekend complete with twice-daily mat classes, Pilates equipment, and incredible eats. www.bodyworkandpilates.com
Our April Pilates Retreat was a great success! Lot's of Pilates, outdoors on the lawn, at the beach and in the studio, laid back, happy vibes, good food, beautiful hikes. Hiking Haleakala National Park was very much a spiritual initiation of sorts- intro to Maui for our first time visitors, as well as a physical challenge. Starting up above the clouds at 10,000 feet, our group hiked down 'Sliding Sands' trail, trekked across the crater floor and climbed back up the 'Switchback' trail, as we were approaching the end of the 12 mile hike, an inspired Lesley, went live on Facebook, high as a kite from the elevation, exertion and super clean air! Then on another beautiful day, we toured the rugged side of Maui, driving the winding road to Hana weaving our way through jungles and mountains, stopping along the way to play on all the beaches, Wainapanapa State Park with it's black onyx sand set against the verdant green rain forest and Kaihalulu Red Sand Beach took our breath away, after a mesmerizing little hiking path led us to where it's red sand merges with the rumbling, cobalt-blue sea. Stunning!
Our Celestial Cinema Gala was an elegant affair, balmy tropical weather, wonderful people, fine dining and Joe Pilates movies under starry skies. I feel relaxed, rejuvenated and inspired and I had a blast hanging out and exploring with phenomenal guest teacher, colleague and dear friend, Lesley Logan Crowell.
Next years retreat is in the works and scheduled for Aug. 4-8, 2018. I can't wait! Subscribe to my mailing list to stay informed of upcoming events!
